Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools
European Economic Letters (EEL) recognizes the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in scholarly work, while ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in the publication process.
Permitted Use
Authors may use AI-assisted tools for:
- Language editing, grammar correction, and readability improvement
- Formatting and reference management
- Data analysis support (where appropriately validated by authors)
Mandatory Disclosure
Any use of generative AI tools must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript under a dedicated section (e.g., Acknowledgements or Methods), specifying:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose of its use
- The extent of its involvement in the research or writing process
Restrictions
AI tools must not be used for:
- Generating or altering research data, results, or conclusions
- Creating fabricated references or citations
- Writing substantial portions of the manuscript without human oversight
- Performing peer review or editorial decision-making
Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for:
- The accuracy and originality of the content
- Any use of AI-generated material
- Ensuring that all outputs comply with ethical and publication standards
Editorial Use of AI
Editors and reviewers must not use AI tools to evaluate manuscripts or handle confidential content unless explicitly approved by the journal for limited administrative purposes.
Transparency and Integrity
The journal promotes the responsible and transparent use of AI technologies while safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record.
